Challenge: “Darway Coast identified two villages in Etche LGA in River State in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region without access to electricity.” This situation is indicative of the broader energy access crisis in Nigeria, particularly in remote and underserved areas, which hampers economic growth and educational opportunities.

Action: Recognizing this critical need, Darway Coast was awarded a $50,000 grant by USADF and an additional $50,000 investment from AllON, supported by DDI’s expert project management and business advisory services. The collaboration aimed to construct two solar-powered microgrids in Ozuzu and Akpoku, providing a sustainable energy solution. Result: This initiative culminated in the successful launch of two solar microgrids with a combined capacity of 33.2kW, illuminating over 70 households and businesses through a pay-as-you-go system. This project not only delivered immediate relief to these communities but also set a precedent for renewable energy adoption in rural Nigeria.
