Program Procurement Committee (PPC) Meeting
Cooperatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity, according to International Cooperative Alliance, as the members believe in the ethical values of honesty, social responsibility and openness, among others. Cooperatives are also guided by Cooperative Principles which serve as guidelines for putting their values into practice. They include Voluntary and Open Membership, Democratic Member Control, Member Economic Participation, Autonomy and Independence, Cooperation among Cooperatives, Concern for Community, Education, Training, and Information.
The approved Programme Procurement Policy empowers the grantees through Joint Procurement Committees (JPC); to identify and select suppliers and vendors. The PPC is required to review and ratify (or otherwise) the decision of the JPC based on the approved procurement procedures.
This is why the cooperative groups in Kebbi State under the support of the USADF-Kebbi State partnership hold PPC meetings where procurement decisions are collectively made – in line with the cooperative principles and values. One of such meetings was held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the KARDA office in Kebbi State. The groups represented were: Sangara Agro-Allied Producers and Marketers Cooperative Association; Magaji Karaye Groundnut Farmers’ Cooperative Association and Dawanau Groundnuts Farmers’ Cooperative Association. Also present were Dr Ahmed Ambursa, representing the Kebbi State Ministry of Agriculture, DDI’s Executive Director Adamu Garba, M&E Specialist – Bello Haruna, DDI’s Communications Specialist – Lucky Ihanza, Project Development Officer (Mamun Suleiman Jahun) as well as USADF Country Program Coordinator – Andre Echono who joined virtually from Abuja.
