BACKGROUND
Rigasa Progressive MPCS is wholly owned by a group of small-scale low-income groundnut oil producers located at Kakau town in Chikun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, Northern Nigeria. RPMPCS processes groundnut into oil processing using traditional methods. NBDBCS currently sells its product in Chikun LGA and other surrounding LGAs and has the opportunity to sell significantly more, but is producing with low yield and low quality. RPMPCS is unable to meet local demand with existing supply. The local demand gap for groundnut oil in Kaduna State presents an opportunity that the Cooperative wants to exploit. However, RPMPCS has been unable to seize this market opportunity due to the fact that business management, financial management and accounting structures and technical production capacities are weak. In addition, RPMPCS lacks modern production equipment.
Rigasa Progressive Multipurpose Cooperative Society is currently a beneficiary of the USADF capacity-building grant. The 2-year grant is aimed at developing the capacity of the cooperative members in the identified areas where they are lacking.
